According to the College’s official statement, 14% of learners achieved A* grades, an increase from 12% in 2025 and higher than the Wales national average of 11%. High-grade performance was equally impressive, with 39% of learners achieving A*–A grades, compared to the Wales national average of 30%. A total of 152 learners gained A* or A grades in every one of their subjects, demonstrating consistent excellence across multiple disciplines.

Success was evident across every grade boundary, with 67% of learners achieving A*–B grades (12% higher than the Wales national average) and 87% achieving A*–C grades (compared to the Wales national average of 78%). Together with the 100% pass rate, these results demonstrate both the exceptional quality and the remarkable consistency of A Level achievement across the College.

How Did Gower College Perform Across AS Levels and Vocational Programmes?

The College has also recorded another very strong set of AS Level results. The overall pass rate remained at 94%, with 70% of grades awarded at A–C and almost half (49%) awarded at A–B.

Outstanding achievement was also reflected across the College’s vocational provision, where almost every learner successfully completed their two-year Level 3 programme, resulting in an exceptional 99% pass rate. High-grade achievement was equally strong, with 38% achieving at least one Distinction and 22% achieving the top grade available.

The results underline the breadth of excellence across Gower College uk/local/swansea/">Swansea, from the record-breaking individual performances of its highest-achieving learners to the consistently strong outcomes secured across A Level, AS Level and vocational programmes.

What Did College Leadership Say About the 2026 Results?

As reported by the College’s official communications, Principal Paul Kift stated:

“These outstanding results are first and foremost a reflection of the remarkable hard work, determination and ambition of our learners, and they should feel immensely proud of everything they have achieved.”

He added:

“Their success has also been supported by the dedication of colleagues across the College and the invaluable encouragement of parents, families, carers, and friends. We are absolutely delighted to celebrate this very special moment with them today.”

Principal Kift continued:

“To once again have an overall 100% pass rate at A Level is a fantastic achievement for the College, and we are particularly pleased to see another increase in those top grades of A* and A*-A, which demonstrates once again our drive for academic excellence.”

He noted:

“We are proud that so many of our A Level and vocational learners are progressing onwards to the top institutions and conservatoires across the UK, as well as securing highly competitive higher apprenticeship places.”

Chief Executive Officer Kelly Fountain added: “I would like to offer my congratulations and best wishes to all the students collecting their results today, and a sincere thanks to all the staff at Gower College Swansea, who are tireless in their support of our learners both in and outside of the classroom.” She emphasised the College’s commitment to supporting all learners: “I really hope everyone got the results they expected and needed to move onto their next step but, if you didn’t, please don’t worry — we are here to help. Come and talk to us; we have dedicated staff to provide personalised advice and guidance for learners.”

Fountain further stated: “At Gower College Swansea, we are proud to offer a wide range of pathways to support every learner’s ambitions. From higher education courses to apprenticeship routes, and dedicated employability support for those heading straight into the workplace, our aim is to ensure that every student has access to the opportunities that best suit their goals. We remain firmly committed to helping each individual achieve their full potential and succeed in whichever path they choose.”

How Did Swansea City Schools Perform in A Level Results 2026?

As reported by Swansea Bay News, students at Swansea’s school sixth forms outperformed the Wales average for top A level grades this year, according to figures from Swansea Council. 34.2% of grades in the city’s schools were A* or A, the council said, compared with 29.6% across Wales.

The overall pass rate of 97.4%, covering grades A* to E, came in just below the Welsh average of 97.7%. Overall, 80% of grades in Swansea were C or better. More than 600 young people from the city’s schools with sixth forms collected results, with places at university, further education, training and employment resting on the envelopes.

The council’s figures cover WJEC subjects taken in Swansea’s school sixth forms only, and do not include other exam boards or Gower College Swansea, which reported its results separately.

Swansea Council’s cabinet member for education and learning, Robert Smith, said: “All our A-Level students deserve huge congratulations for their achievements this year.” He said their success reflected their hard work and commitment throughout their studies. “I would also like to thank our schools, teachers, support staff and families for the encouragement and guidance they have provided,” he said.

What Recognition Did Local Officials Offer to A Level Students?

The Lord Mayor of Swansea, Penny Matthews, says:

“I’d like to congratulate all our A Level students across Swansea as they deserve huge praise for their achievements this year.”

She added:

“Their success reflects their hard work, determination and commitment throughout their studies.”

“I wish all our young people every success for the future with whatever they are doing next.”

Across Wales, top grades rose for the third year running, with 97.7% of students achieving A* to E. 10.7% of grades across Wales were A*, up from 10.5% last year and well above pre-pandemic levels.

Background of the Particular Development

Gower College Swansea’s achievement of a 100% A Level pass rate for the second consecutive year represents a significant milestone in Welsh further education. The College, which serves students across Swansea and the surrounding Gower peninsula, has consistently demonstrated strong academic performance in recent years. The 2026 results build upon the foundation established in 2025, when the College first achieved a 100% pass rate, setting a high benchmark for institutional excellence.

The results come amid a broader context of improving A Level performance across Wales, with national statistics showing 97.7% of students achieving A* to E grades in 2026, up from 97.5% in 2025. The proportion of A* grades awarded across Wales increased to 10.7%, up from 10.5% the previous year. Gower College’s performance significantly exceeds these national averages, particularly in the proportion of learners achieving top grades.

The College’s vocational provision has also shown strong performance, with a 99% pass rate across Level 3 programmes, reflecting the institution’s commitment to diverse educational pathways beyond traditional A Levels. This breadth of provision aligns with Welsh Government policy emphasising both academic and vocational routes to higher education and employment.

Prediction: How This Development Can Affect Prospective Students and Local Communities

Gower College Swansea’s sustained excellence in A Level results is likely to have several implications for prospective students, local communities, and the wider educational landscape in South Wales. For prospective students and their families, the College’s track record of 100% pass rates and above-average top grade attainment positions it as an attractive option for post-16 education in the region. This may lead to increased applications from high-achieving students seeking institutions with proven records of academic success.

For local communities, the College’s performance reinforces Swansea’s reputation as a centre of educational excellence in Wales. The strong results may encourage greater investment in local education infrastructure and support services, as stakeholders recognise the economic and social benefits of a highly qualified workforce. Employers in the region may also benefit from the pipeline of well-qualified graduates progressing to higher education, apprenticeships, and direct employment.

The College’s success may also influence educational policy discussions at local and national levels, particularly regarding the support structures and teaching methodologies that contribute to sustained high performance. Other institutions may look to Gower College’s approach as a model for improving their own outcomes, potentially raising standards across the Welsh further education sector.
