Cats Protection is inviting supporters to swap the sofa for the summit this September with a charity climb up Pen Y Fan. On 12 September 2026, walkers will gather at 5pm at the mountain base (LD3 8NL) before heading up Wales’s highest peak in the Brecon Beacons. With a fully trained mountain rescue walk leader guiding the way, it’s a chance to enjoy spectacular views, fresh air and feline‑friendly fundraising all in one go.
Costs and Sponsorship Requirements
This climb requires participants to pay a small fee of £25 for registration, which includes the full support of an experienced walk leader and a nice warm drink upon returning from the climb. Participants are also asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship, aiding Cats Protection to continue its work to improve the lives of cats across Wales. The charity encourages climbers to set this as their fundraising target.

Expect a friendly, supportive atmosphere and a steady climb that calls for a moderate level of fitness. Pen Y Fan’s weather can be unpredictable, so walkers should bring water, a flask of tea or coffee, and clothing ready for anything the Welsh skies decide to throw at you. Before the big day, Cats Protection’s fundraising team will kit you out with a fundraising pack full of tips, resources and sponsorship forms — plus a free branded T‑shirt to proudly wear on the climb. And just to be clear: this is a humans‑only adventure. No pets on the mountain.
