Wales Crime (Wales Times) October 14, 2026 — Christopher White, a 39-year-old Raynham man, was sentenced on 14 October 2026 to more than 12 years in federal prison for his role in the armed robbery of a cash courier carrying roughly $436,200 in cannabis-business deposits outside a uk/local/swansea/">Swansea bank, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.

How Long Will Christopher White Serve in Prison?

As reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Judge Patti B. Saris sentenced White to 154 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence equals 12 years and 10 months.

White was arrested and charged in May 2024. In May 2026, he pleaded guilty to five federal counts: robbery interfering with interstate commerce, commonly called Hobbs Act robbery; conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery; brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence; being a felon in possession of a firearm; and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Thomas A. Greco, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Philip Cheng, Allegra Flamm and John J. Reynolds III prosecuted the case.

What Happened During the Swansea Cash Courier Robbery?

According to the federal account, in the early hours of 19 February 2024, White and Steven Madison were recorded on video stealing a rental van from a U-Haul Moving & Storage location in Abington. Later that day, an armed courier working for a secure cash-transport company arrived at a bank in Swansea with about $436,200 in cash for deposit.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the U-Haul pulled alongside the courier. White, wearing a mask and camouflage vest, left the van and pointed a firearm at the courier before zip-tying the courier’s hands behind his back. Madison then loaded the cash into the van, prosecutors said.

Federal officials said the two men tried to disarm the courier, forced him into the back seat of his own car, pepper-sprayed him and shut the door. Surveillance footage cited by prosecutors showed that the courier removed one hand from the zip tie while inside the vehicle, drew his firearm and fired four rounds toward the U-Haul as it fled, before calling 911.

As reported by Amanda Bang of NBC 10 News (WJAR), authorities said White and Madison then drove to a nearby Swansea location, where they met Quentin McDonald, who was driving an SUV. The money was transferred into the SUV, and the men fled.

What Evidence Did Investigators Find?

Prosecutors said a search of White’s Raynham residence recovered zip ties, a black mask similar to one worn by a robber, a firearm, ammunition and cocaine. The office also said White had prior state convictions for larceny and receiving stolen property.

The investigation received assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and police departments in Bridgewater, Brockton, Raynham and Swansea, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

What Charges Did the Other Suspects Face?

Steven Madison, 39, of Bridgewater, pleaded guilty in June 2025 to robbery, conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on 9 November 2026.

Quentin McDonald, 35, of Brockton, pleaded guilty in May 2026 to one count of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced on 3 December 2026.

Earlier reporting by The Herald News said the three men were arrested in May 2024 and initially faced charges including affecting commerce by robbery, conspiracy and malicious destruction of property. The report, citing a federal complaint prepared by ATF agent Eric Mercer, said the courier was carrying cash collected from Cosmopolitan and other dispensaries in the Cape Cod area.

WCVB also reported that the three men faced federal charges after the February 2024 robbery, in which the courier was bringing deposits to a bank, with a majority of the money coming from one marijuana dispensary. Boston 25 News reported that court documents described two armed suspects robbing the courier and a getaway driver, and said the courier was carrying cash pickups from multiple Massachusetts cannabis dispensaries.

Was Anyone Else Acquitted in the Case?

A separate report by New Bedford Guide said a former manager at a Fall River cannabis dispensary was acquitted in July 2026 on all federal charges connected to the alleged role in the February 2024 robbery. The report said Steven Madison, Christopher White and Quentin McDonald were arrested in May 2024 in connection with the crime.

Background of the Development

The robbery took place on 19 February 2024 at BayCoast Bank on Swansea Mall Drive, according to WPRI. The outlet reported that the courier was dropping off cash deposits collected from several cannabis dispensaries and was zip-tied, pepper-sprayed and robbed of more than $436,000.

Because cannabis remains illegal under federal law, many licensed cannabis businesses operate largely in cash and rely on secure transport companies to move deposits to banks. The federal case was prosecuted under the Hobbs Act, which covers robbery that interferes with interstate commerce.

Prediction: How This Affects Cannabis Businesses and Couriers

For licensed cannabis operators, secure-transport staff and bank partners in southeastern Massachusetts, the sentence is likely to reinforce the importance of route planning, cash-handling controls, vehicle security and coordination with law enforcement. The case demonstrates that large cash transfers remain a visible security risk, particularly when couriers move substantial deposits from dispensaries to banks.

For cannabis businesses, the development may prompt renewed review of courier schedules, deposit frequency, insurance arrangements and emergency-response procedures. For couriers, the case highlights both the physical dangers of armed robbery and the potential legal complexity when a courier uses a firearm during an attack; prosecutors said the courier in this case fired four rounds toward the fleeing van.

For residents and local businesses in Swansea, Abington, Raynham, Bridgewater and Brockton, the sentencing marks a major step in a federal prosecution that remains active: Madison and McDonald are still awaiting sentencing later in 2026.
