The Wrexham-headquartered company said the move builds on its existing presence in Wales. According to Lets Recycle, ASH Waste Services has previously supported thousands of businesses in North Wales with the implementation of the Workplace Recycling Regulations.

The announcement was made by ASH Waste Services, a commercial waste collection and management provider that says it has more than 35 years’ experience in the sector. The company said it is now working to develop its customer base across South Wales as part of its continued growth.

Why Is ASH Waste Services Entering South Wales?

The company described Cardiff, Newport and the surrounding areas as key markets. Andrew Hulme, Company Director at ASH Waste Services, said the expansion represented an important step in the company’s continued growth across the UK.

As reported by Lets Recycle, Hulme said: “Expanding into South Wales is an important step for ASH Waste Services as we continue to grow our presence across the UK.”

He added: “Cardiff, Newport and the surrounding areas are key markets for us, and we’re looking forward to working more closely with businesses in the region to support effective waste management and increase the efficiency of recycling streams.”

The company’s expansion follows its established operations in North Wales. Lets Recycle reported that ASH Waste Services has supported thousands of businesses in North Wales with the Workplace Recycling Regulations, which require workplaces in Wales to sort and separate recyclable waste.

What Services Will Be Offered?

ASH Waste Services will offer commercial waste management and recycling services to businesses across Cardiff, Newport and surrounding areas. The company said the expansion is intended to support businesses with effective waste management and improve the efficiency of recycling streams.

According to the company’s own service information, its commercial offering includes general waste collections, commercial recycling, food waste collections, confidential waste, electrical waste recycling, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and larger commercial containers such as RELs and RoRos.

The company also provides what it describes as Total Waste Management, a service covering collection, transport, treatment, disposal and regulatory compliance. ASH Waste Services says this service is designed around an assessment of each customer’s waste output.

How Is the Company Supporting Recycling Rules?

As part of the South Wales expansion, ASH Waste Services has invested in new vehicles designed to collect multiple waste and recycling streams on a single vehicle while keeping materials separate. The company said this approach would support waste segregation requirements while reducing the need for additional collection vehicles.

Hulme said the company’s focus is on providing reliable, tailored waste management services while making it straightforward for customers to manage waste responsibly.

“We have also invested in our fleet as part of the expansion, with brand-new vehicles being introduced into the region,”

Hulme said, as reported by Lets Recycle.

He added:

“These vehicles are designed to collect multiple waste and recycling streams on a single vehicle while keeping those materials separate. This allows us to support segregation requirements while also reducing the need for additional collection vehicles and helping to minimise our overall environmental footprint.”

The company’s website states that all workplaces in Wales are required to sort and separate waste for recycling, and that waste management providers must ensure this waste is collected separately.

What Does the Fleet Investment Involve?

The new vehicles are intended to allow ASH Waste Services to collect separate waste and recycling streams during a single collection round. The company said this could support segregation requirements and reduce the number of additional vehicles needed.

The investment is presented by the company as both an operational and environmental measure. According to Lets Recycle, ASH Waste Services said the vehicles would help minimise its overall environmental footprint by reducing the need for additional collections.

Hulme said the company wanted to provide tailored services that meet the needs of individual businesses. He said the fleet investment formed part of the South Wales expansion, with new vehicles being introduced into the region.

What Is Known About ASH Waste Services?

ASH Waste Services is a UK commercial waste collection and management company. Lets Recycle reported that the company has more than 35 years’ experience in the waste management sector and provides services to businesses across the UK.

The company’s website says it operates from a Wrexham base and provides services across North Wales, the North West, West Midlands, Yorkshire and the South West. It also refers to a new East Midlands depot.

Companies House records show Andrew Hulme has been a director of ASH Waste Services Limited since 1 June 2020.

The company’s expansion into South Wales follows earlier growth elsewhere in the UK. A June 2026 report by Dennis Eagle said ASH Waste Services had added sites in Widnes, Barnsley, Birmingham and Bristol to its Wrexham headquarters.

Background of the Development

ASH Waste Services was founded with roots in the 1980s, when Alan Hassall started the business from a small yard in Chester, according to Dennis Eagle. The company was officially established in the mid-2000s by Alan Hassall’s son, Neil Hassall, and daughter-in-law, Zoe Hassall.

The company has since expanded from its Wrexham base, with Dennis Eagle reporting sites in Widnes, Barnsley, Birmingham and Bristol. Its website describes it as one of the UK’s leading independent waste management providers and says it offers scheduled collections six days a week.

The South Wales move comes against the backdrop of Welsh workplace recycling rules. ASH Waste Services says all workplaces in Wales must sort and separate waste for recycling, and that providers must collect that waste separately.

The company has also been associated with guidance around recycling legislation elsewhere in the UK. In material published by the Warrington Chamber of Commerce, ASH Waste Services said it was helping businesses prepare for Simpler Recycling changes, with further requirements due to apply to all non-domestic settings from 2027.

Prediction: How Could This Affect South Wales Businesses?

For businesses in Cardiff, Newport and nearby areas, the expansion could increase the number of commercial waste and recycling providers available to them. ASH Waste Services says it will offer commercial waste management and recycling services in the region, with a focus on tailored collections and segregation of materials.

Businesses that need to separate recyclable materials may find the company’s multi-stream vehicles relevant, because the company says they can collect several streams while keeping materials separate. This could be particularly relevant for organisations managing general waste, recycling and food waste under Welsh workplace recycling requirements.

The development may also increase competition among commercial waste providers in South Wales. Existing operators in the region include companies listed by Commercial Waste Quotes, such as Cardiff & Caerphilly Skips, Noland Recycling and Browns Waste Services.

For ASH Waste Services, the expansion could help it build a customer base in a new part of Wales. The company said it is working to develop its customer base across South Wales as part of its continued growth, while Hulme said it looked forward to working more closely with businesses in Cardiff, Newport and surrounding areas.
