As reported by the Rhyl Journal, North Wales Police Flintshire South said high-performance Audis, BMWs and Land Rover Defenders had been targeted across the two areas following reports of six burglaries in recent weeks. The force said entry was gained into three properties, where offenders stole car keys from inside before taking the vehicles.

The warning was also covered by North Wales Live, Wrexham.com, the Leader, WalesOnline and the Denbighshire Free Press, all reporting the same police statement and advising owners to strengthen vehicle and home security.

What have North Wales Police said?

In a statement reported by North Wales Live, North Wales Police Flintshire South said: “We are reminding high-performance car owners to remain vigilant following a spate of car key burglaries.”

The statement continued: “High-performance Audis, BMWs and Land Rover Defenders have been targeted across Wrexham and Flintshire following reports of six burglaries in recent weeks.”

Police said offenders had gained entry to three properties, stolen car keys from inside and then taken the vehicles. The force did not name the individual locations of the burglaries, the exact dates of each incident, the models involved, or whether any arrests had been made in the reports available.

As reported by Wrexham.com, a police spokesperson said:

“Investigations into the thefts are ongoing and we urge people to review any security measures they have in place and to take steps to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime.”

Why are keyless cars being targeted?

Police have advised drivers with keyless-entry vehicles to take extra precautions because offenders may be able to exploit key signals. North Wales Police recommended using a Faraday box or pouch to block the signal from car keys, or fitting a steering-wheel lock.

A Faraday pouch or box is designed to prevent a keyless fob’s signal from being relayed to a vehicle. A steering-wheel lock provides an additional physical barrier, even if a thief gains access to the car.

The force also urged residents to review their wider home-security arrangements. In its advice, reported by Wrexham.com, police said people should take steps to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime.

How can residents report suspicious activity?

North Wales Police asked anyone who sees somebody acting suspiciously in their area to report it on 101 or through the force’s live web chat. The Leader reported that information could also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers.

Wrexham.com listed Crimestoppers’ anonymous telephone number as 0800 555 111. The force said further vehicle-security advice was available on the North Wales Police website.

Have similar thefts been reported recently?

The latest warning follows other reported vehicle-theft incidents in North Wales. In February, Wrexham.com reported that North Wales Police had issued a warning to Audi owners after multiple vehicle thefts in Mold, Penrhosgarnedd and Mynydd Isa, with cars reportedly targeted while parked in residential streets and on driveways.

At that time, North Wales Police said officers were actively investigating the incidents and carrying out increased patrols in affected areas. The force asked vehicle owners to take extra precautions and report suspicious activity immediately.

More recently, North Wales Live reported on October 12 that a couple were due to be reunited with a Land Rover campervan stolen from their driveway in Buckley, Flintshire. The report said thieves broke into the rear door of the property on Spon Green on October 3, stole the Land Rover Defender keys and drove the vehicle away; it was later picked up on automatic number-plate recognition in Merseyside.

That report quoted a resident, Yvonne, as telling North Wales Live that police had located the Land Rover and it was “intact”. She said the thieves had driven the vehicle straight off the drive after breaking into the house to take the keys.

What is North Wales Police doing about burglary?

The warning comes as North Wales Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner have publicised burglary-prevention work in Flintshire. The Leader reported on October 24 that a winter burglary-prevention operation was under way in Flintshire, with a focus on Operation Blue Instinct.

According to the Leader, Operation Blue Instinct was originally developed by Sergeant Smith while working in Wrexham, where it helped deliver significant reductions in burglaries during the winter months. The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales also reported that the Police and Crime Commissioner had seen problem-solving policing in action as Operation Blue Instinct began in Flintshire North.

North Wales Police has previously described cross-border operations targeting rural vehicle crime, including car-key burglaries and thefts from vehicles, in areas including Wrexham Rural, Chirk, Oswestry and Welshpool. In a 2023 operation, the force said its Rural Crime Team, Roads Policing Unit, drones team, dogs section and Wrexham Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside Cheshire Police, West Mercia Police and Dyfed-Powys Police as part of Operation Blue Vision.

What should Audi, BMW and Land Rover owners do now?

Owners of the vehicles named in the police warning should check where keys are stored overnight, particularly if they use keyless entry. Police specifically recommended keeping key signals blocked with a Faraday box or pouch and considering a steering-wheel lock.

Residents should also review home security, avoid leaving keys visible or near external doors, and report suspicious behaviour promptly. North Wales Police has previously advised drivers to lock vehicles, close windows, remove valuables from view and park in well-lit areas where possible.

Background of the development

The development follows a wider pattern of vehicle-crime warnings in North Wales. In February 2026, North Wales Police warned Audi owners after thefts in Mold, Penrhosgarnedd and Mynydd Isa, while increasing patrols and urging residents to report suspicious activity.

In October, North Wales Live reported the theft of a Land Rover campervan from a driveway in Buckley, Flintshire, in which offenders allegedly broke into a property to take the keys before driving the vehicle away. The vehicle was later located through ANPR in Merseyside, according to the report.

The latest police warning also coincides with Operation Blue Instinct, a winter burglary-prevention initiative reported in Flintshire, and follows earlier cross-border work under Operation Blue Vision against rural vehicle crime and car-key burglaries.

Prediction: How this could affect drivers and residents

The warning is likely to prompt owners of Audis, BMWs and Land Rover Defenders in Wrexham and Flintshire to review where they keep their keys and whether they need additional protection such as Faraday storage or steering-wheel locks.

For local residents, the police advice may lead to greater attention on unfamiliar activity near driveways, homes and parked vehicles, with more reports made through 101, the live web chat or Crimestoppers. If investigations continue, further appeals, security patrols or neighbourhood alerts could follow, particularly if additional incidents are reported in the affected areas.
