As reported by Nick Gladney of FOX 2, uk/police/swansea-police/">Swansea Police said the child was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon after he did not return home following his school-bus journey. The boy was later found early on Thursday and was being evaluated at the Swansea Police Department.

First Alert 4 identified the child as Prince Carter, a fifth-grade pupil at High Mount School. According to First Alert 4, the school said Prince got off the bus after school on Wednesday but did not arrive home; his father called police at about 4:30 p.m.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency said Prince was last seen at around 2 p.m. in the area of Pawnee Drive and North Second Street. As reported by KSDK, he was described as wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, carrying a backpack, standing 4 feet 10 inches tall and wearing black-rimmed glasses.

How Was Prince Carter Found?

Prince was found shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday. In a press conference, Swansea Police said he was located at about 5:20 a.m. by a member of the community, according to First Alert 4.

As reported by First Alert 4, police said the resident had been out doing laundry, went searching while in the area, and found Prince walking on a street near his residence before calling officers.

The Belleville News-Democrat reported that Swansea Police said Prince was found “relatively close to his home and in good shape”. The department said emergency medical personnel were evaluating him as a precaution.

First Alert 4 reported that Prince was medically evaluated, had no injuries, and had been reunited with his family. Police said he told them he had slept in a shed overnight, but that officers did not know where.

What Did Police Say About Foul Play?

Swansea Police said there was no indication of foul play in the case. As reported by the Belleville News-Democrat, the department stated:

“There is no indication of foul play in this case.”

First Alert 4 likewise reported that police said no foul play was suspected. Officers were working to establish why Prince did not return home after getting off the bus.

FOX 2 reported that an investigation into the incident remained ongoing and that Swansea Police were expected to provide further information on Thursday.

How Did the Search Proceed?

The search began on Wednesday afternoon after Prince was reported missing. First Alert 4 reported that, by Wednesday evening, officers were using canine units near Pawnee and Second Street, while community members also joined the search.

According to First Alert 4, the active search was called off shortly before midnight because of lighting constraints. Police vehicles remained in the area overnight, with officers continuing to patrol and look for Prince.

The Belleville News-Democrat reported that, as of 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Prince had not been found. District 116 Superintendent April Becherer shared that update in a letter to families and the Swansea community.

What Did the School and Police Say?

High Mount School District 116 Superintendent April Becherer confirmed that Prince had not been located as of late Wednesday night. As reported by the Belleville News-Democrat, she also said school would be in session as scheduled on Thursday.

Swansea Police thanked community members, assisting public-safety agencies and organisations for their efforts to locate the boy. As reported by the Belleville News-Democrat, the department said: “We are happy to report that Prince has been located relatively close to his home and in good shape.”

During the search, authorities asked anyone with information to contact High Mount School or call 911. FOX 2 reported that Swansea Police also provided a non-emergency contact number, 618-233-8114, for tips.

Background of the Development

Prince Carter is a fifth-grade pupil at High Mount School, a public school in Swansea, Illinois. He was last seen after stepping off his school bus on Wednesday afternoon, 4 November 2026, in the area of Pawnee Drive and North Second Street.

The disappearance prompted a police search supported by canine units and local residents. The search continued overnight despite being formally paused shortly before midnight because of poor lighting.

Prince was found safe the following morning, close to his home, and was reunited with his family after a medical evaluation. Swansea Police have said no foul play is suspected, while the investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.

Prediction: What This Means for Swansea Families

For parents and carers in Swansea and nearby St. Clair County communities, the case is likely to renew attention on the period between a child leaving a school bus and arriving home. Families may review arrangements for meeting younger children at bus stops, confirming arrival by message or call, and ensuring children know whom to contact if plans change.

For High Mount School and District 116, the incident may prompt further communication with families about bus arrival times, absence reporting and the steps parents should take if a child does not reach home. The district has already communicated directly with families during the search, and Superintendent April Becherer confirmed that classes continued as normal the next day.

For local residents, the outcome demonstrates the practical role community members can play during a missing-person search. The person who found Prince was a local resident who joined the search and contacted police, according to First Alert 4. Swansea Police are expected to release further information as their investigation continues.
