Roding Primary School Bids Farewell to Hewett Road Site

Roding Primary School brought together generations of pupils, families, staff and local residents to celebrate the rich history of its Hewett Road site with a special community picnic, marking the end of an important chapter in the school’s history.

The event welcomed former pupils, parents, teachers and members of the wider community, many of whom returned to share memories of the school that has been at the heart of the local community for decades. Guests enjoyed live music from Mr. Chase and his band, alongside food, refreshments and an afternoon filled with laughter, reflection and celebration.

The Hewett Road site, which first opened in the 1940s, has been home to countless generations of children. Over the years, it has witnessed many milestones, including the successful rebuilding of the school following the devastating fire in 2018. As Roding Primary School prepares to unite its two sites into a single campus at Cannington Road, the picnic provided an opportunity to honour the people, achievements and memories that have shaped the Hewett Road community.

Headteacher Mr. Robbins said:

“We are grateful to everyone who has been part of the Hewett Road community over the years. This picnic was our chance to celebrate the friendships, achievements and memories that the site has helped create. We look forward to welcoming our whole Roding community onto our Cannington Road site and sharing in the school’s exciting new chapter.”

The event also welcomed former headteachers, past and present staff, pupils and families, many gathering together for the first time in years. Their presence reflected the lasting impact the school has had across generations and the strong sense of community that continues to define Roding Primary School.

While the Hewett Road site now closes its doors, its legacy will continue through the memories, friendships and achievements of everyone who has been part of its story. As the school begins its next chapter on a unified campus, Roding Primary School remains committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and inspiring environment for future generations of pupils.
